Anya Hibbert-Buchanan is a 10-year-old dancer from Morgantown, West Virginia. She dances at A W Dance Company.

“[Dance] has helped me to believe that I can achieve my goals if I work hard and never give up.”

How does dance have a positive impact on your life?

“Dance has made me more confident. It has helped me to believe that I can achieve my goals if I work hard and never give up. This is true both on the dance floor as well as in everything else I do. I have also made a lot of friends through dance and these friendships mean a lot to me. Attending a dance studio and participating in group dances has also taught me the importance of teamwork and celebrating the success of others.

How do you want to use dance to make a positive influence on your community?

“I hope that my love for dance, my team spirit, and my dedication to work hard and becoming a better dancer will inspire other young kids from my community to see that they can pursue their dreams in a fun and rewarding way while doing well in school and pursuing their other interests.
