The color geniuses at Pantone set us up to look on the bright side with yellow and gray tones (officially Illuminating and Ultimate Gray) as 2021’s Colors of the Year. It looks like they’re going for something a bit cooler with the announcement of the 2022 Color of the Year. Teen Vogue calls it “Blurple,” Patone is sticking with Very Peri for the latest Color of the Year.

If you love color as much as we do, then you know periwinkle is typically a very pale blue-toned purple (named after an equally delicate little flower!), but Very Peri is a “carefree” and “Daring” color that is a bit deeper than its parent. Pantone says the color “brings a novel perspective and vision of the trusted and beloved blue color family…Very Peri displays a spritely, joyous attitude and dynamic presence that encourages creativity and imaginative expressions.”

It looks great in neon and with the right surroundings, we can see Very Peri fitting into every aesthetic from throwbacks to fairycore. It’s also a great backdrop for reflection and growth. A Very Peri journal seems like the perfect place to keep track of everything you do in 2022!

As always, Pantone is taking cues from the current year to set a (color) tone for the future, and they really are looking forward. Very Peri is a brand new color, and they took “global innovation and transformation” as their inspiration. “Our notions and standards are changing, and our physical and digital lives have merged in new ways,” Pantone said in their statement exploring the meaning behind the color. Gaming, social media, digital art, and more inspired them to consider the ways that we are looking at the world today and how we might continue to break those boundaries in 2022.

How will you embrace Very Peri (or is purple not your hue)? We’re excited to see this tone’s many applications in decor and accessories (we’ve already noticed that similar colors are a fave for chunky clay rings) and even, of course, on stage. Here’s to hue, Very Peri! We’ll see you next year!
