Brooklyn Getzinger is a 15-year-old dancer from Stanwood, Washington. She dances at Northwest Dance & Acro.

“When I am dancing it forces me to put all my attention into my dance, and I can let the things that are stressing me just kind of melt away.”

How does dance have a positive impact on your life?

Dance allows me the ability to make friendships that are based on a shared passion for dance. My dance friends and I are always striving to improve and we push each other to get better. It also helps create balance in my life. When I am dancing, it forces me to put all my attention into my dance and I can let the things that are stressing me just kind of melt away. I always feel more at peace when I have finished spending time dancing.

How do you want to use dance to be a positive influence on your community?

The dance community, and especially my dance teachers, have taught me so many life lessons about character. Skills such as accountability, effort, teamwork, and that the only person who is responsible for my improvement is me. I try to carry these traits into my interactions with my community. I want to be someone my community can count on to help when needed. I want to be able to share these skills with my community.
