“I dance with a pacemaker! My dance studio has been a place of comfort through my health challenges.”

How does dance have a positive impact on your life?

“Dance is special to me because it has always been something I could count on since I was a little girl. I have a congenital heart defect called restrictive cardiomyopathy. I dance with a pacemaker! My dance studio has been a place of comfort through my health challenges. I have been able to express all of my emotions through my dancing! Dance is home-base for me!

How do you want to use dance to make a positive influence on your community?

“I just recently participated in a dance video for a dance group that focuses on health challenges. They use dancing to tell a story and include interviews from families who have been affected by the disease, using dance to spread awareness through the community.  I would love to see more dancing as a platform for important social issues. I am also interested in dance as a form of physical and emotional therapy for children in our schools and after-school programs. Helping one beat at a time!
