Like many award shows, the Billboard Music Awards is not letting 2020 hold it back. Originally set for April of this year, the BBMAs are now taking place on Wednesday, October 14.

Hosted by Kelly Clarkson for the third year in a row, the BBMAs will follow in the footsteps of the VMAs and the Emmys which were a mix of distanced and pre-recorded speeches, announcements, and performances.

If some of this year’s nominations seem like a throwback, it’s because they kind of are. Even though they’re taking place six months late, the nominations are still being drawn from the BBMAs’ original eligibility period, March 23, 2019 through March 14, 2020. So, even though Taylor Swift is onto her new album folklore, but Lover is up for the Top Billboard 200 Album Award alongside When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? (Billie Eilish) and thank u, next (Ariana Grande). Post Malone received the most nominations this year, sixteen total. He is followed by Lil Nas X with thirteen nominations, Billie Eilish and Khalid both with twelve nominations, and Lizzo with eleven nominations.
