Jessica Lyons is a 17-year-old dancer from Greer, South Carolina. She dances at Starmakers Dance Company.

“The friendships I have obtained, things I’ve learned, and experiences I have gotten to encounter are just a few things that make me love dance.”

How does dance have a positive impact on your life?

Dance has offered me so many opportunities both within the art and outside. The friendships I have obtained, things I’ve learned, and experiences I have gotten to encounter are just a few things that make me love dance. It has absolutely helped me grow as a dancer and a human being and will forever be my first love.

How do you want to use dance to be a positive influence on your community?

Dance should bring joy to everyone. Whether you are participating or just watching, it should make you feel something. I want to make people smile while watching me perform and also want to inspire young dancers to love dance as much as I did and still do 13 years later.
