The TikTok meme that became a virtual musical, Ratatouille: The TikTok Musical, is officially eligible for Emmy recognition in the Outstanding Music Supervision category.

Ratatouille: The TikTok Musical, originally known on TikTok as “Ratatousical,” premiered as a live virtual musical theater event on January 1, 2021 with an encore performance following on January 10. Not only did this give more than 350,000 people to experience the viral collaboration (and to raise over $2 million for The Actors Fund), it also put the musical well within the Emmys eligibility window of June 1, 2020 – May 31, 2021.

If Ratatouille: The Musical receives an Emmys nod, it won’t be the first award the TikTok project has been up for. Last month, the musical was nominated for and won the People’s Voice Award at the Webby Awards. It was also nominated for Outstanding Digital Concert Production.

The Academy will announce its 2021 Emmy nominations on July 13, 2021. We’ll be keeping our eyes open for TikTok creations on the list!
