Misty Copeland’s upcoming (and highly anticipated) biopic, Life in Motion: An Unlikely Ballerina is still probably a long way from hitting the big screen, but work on the film is well underway. This is especially true now that a director has been chosen!

The movie, based on Misty Copeland’s memoir of the same name, will be directed by Nzingha Stewart. Stewart is known for her work on popular television like How to Get Away With MurderScandalGrey’s Anatomy, and A Million Little Things. She is also the mastermind behind the Netflix original Tall Girl. Now, her directorial skills will be paired with Misty Copeland’s incredible life story and a screenplay adaptation of the memoir written by Michelle Rosenfarb.

In response to her new role, Stewart said, “As an African-American woman, I know firsthand that when Misty Copeland leaps, we all soar. As a filmmaker, I am thrilled to bring this hopeful, triumphant and cinematic story to the big screen.” We’re thrilled to see how she will bring Misty Copeland’s story to life.
