Lauren Scotch is a 16-year-old dancer from Land o’ Lakes, Florida. She dances at Dancing Plus.

“[Dance] has taught me dedication to an art, persistence to perform better, desire to be healthier, and use my body to the best of its ability.”

How does dance have a positive impact on your life?

Dance has given me lifelong friends, amazing teachers, and a close community. It has taught me dedication to an art, persistence to perform better, desire to be healthier, and use my body to the best of its ability. It has taught me humility, defeat, and how to keep going when things are tough. I have learned to celebrate the incredible moments and appreciate the moments of defeat. All of these are life lessons I was able to learn at a young age and apply to all aspects of my life, and all because of dance.

How do you want to use dance to be a positive influence on your community?

Dance is an expression of our souls and right now this country could use some healing! I look forward to performing again once the world becomes normal one day, but for now, I will keep training, improving myself, and growing my network of dance friends and family. I appreciate every opportunity I have to continue to dance and use it as a tool for dealing with the current state of the world. I hope to be able to share this with the community soon and help my community heal from this crazy year!
