Shakira’s dance show is finally here! Last night, Shakira’s Dancing with Myself premiered on NBC. The show is a true game show with quick eliminations and new contestants each week, and we are loving the focus on dancing for the joy of it no matter your skill!

Did you miss Dancing with Myself this week? Here’s how the first episode went.

The show is hosted by Camille Kostek, and in the first episode, Liza Koshy, Nick Jonas, and Shakira herself created the dance challenges and taught the dancers and audience the moves. In each round, the creatives (Dancing with Myself‘s take on judges) or a guest teach a dance that the dancers in the pods have to learn the moves and show them off for the studio audience’s votes.

The first dance was to Shakira’s “Eyes on You,” and this week’s contestants were revealed to be a variety of trained and amateur dancers from Marcus the flight attendant to Smac McCreanor who you might recognize from Season 16 of SYTYCD. Eight of the dancers were pushed forward by the studio audience’s votes, but the remaining four were in danger of going home unless the creators saved two of them, rounding the group out to 10.

The second round of the show is a freestyle dance battle. Two dancers had their pods randomly opened to dance to a surprise song. Five dancers were in danger after this round, but the judges saved three to round the number up to eight dancers!

This week, the second dance came from comedian Nikki Glaser. Set to Michael Franti and Spearhead’s “Out in the Sun,” a “dance along” challenge is one where the moves match the lyrics (think about a lot of your favorite TikTok dances!). This challenge was one row of pods versus the other (four versus four), and the creators saved two eliminated dancers. The six dancers were then paired up to try out a duo dance created by Liza and Camille. At this point, we know the drill. One pair wins based on the audience’s vote, and the creators save two more dancers.

Camille taught the next dance to “good 4 u” by Olivia Rodrigo for the “Shake Up” round. The final four dancers have to do the dance with a surprise element. For this first episode, the surprise was a chair. After the surprise, the audience picked the two that would go to the final round. The last two dancers standing in the premiere episode were 16-year-old dancer Tyra and dance comedian Smac.

In the final round, the last two contestants leave their pods and perform a prepared dance to the same song. In this “Be the Creator” round, both dancers performed to “Shut Up and Dance” by WALK THE MOON. The audience’s votes led to Tyra becoming the winner of the night (and $25,000).

Dancing with Myself will return with a new group of dancers each week Tuesdays at 10pm ET on NBC and on-demand on Peacock. And if you’re getting up to dance along, you can find learn the moves on NBC’s social channels!
