Dear Evan Hansen opened on Broadway in 2016 and quickly became a smash hit. The musical has since won six Tony Awards including Best Musical and Best Actor in a Musical which went to lead Ben Platt who will be starring in the film adaptation. Ben will star alongside Kaitlyn Dever, Amandla Stenberg, Amy Adams and Julianne Moore.
The movie, written by Steven Levenson (author of the book that inspired the musical), follows Evan Hansen, a high school student struggling with his mental health who finds himself caught up in a lie when a classmate dies. The lie makes him a beacon of hope for people around him, but it quickly begins to unravel.
Whether you’re more excited to see how your favorite songs translate to the big screen or seeing Ben step back into Evan’s shoes, Dear Evan Hansen is sure to join some of our favorite musical movie adaptations of the year (and 2021 is full of them!).
