Taelynn Ritchie is a 19-year-old dancer from Anchorage, Alaska. She dances at Studio 49.

“I want to help younger generations of dancers [in Alaska] not only grow but to show them that you can dream big even if you are from a small pond.”

How does dance have a positive impact on your life?

It gives me a way to not only express myself but to escape the world and enter my own reality where I can be and do anything. I feel powerful, free, and have learned self-confidence.

How do you want to use dance to be a positive influence on your community?

Being 2,000 miles away from the rest of the [United States], it is really difficult to feel [like] a part of the dance community as a whole. I want to help bring an elite level of dance to Alaska and help younger generations of dancers not only grow but to show them that you can dream big even if you are from a small pond. I want them to know that, although we are far away from the [continental] US, they can still accomplish their goals.
