If you’re on your toes waiting for the Keone and Mari Madrid choreographed The Karate Kid musical, your wait is almost over. Earlier this summer, it was announced that regional tryouts for The Karate Kid were set for spring 2022 with a Broadway debut following not far behind in the summer.

Directed by Amon Miyamoto (Pacific Overtures), The Karate Kid is based on the Columbia Pictures film written by Robert Mark Kamen (Robert returned to write the book for the musical as well!). Scenic designer Derek McLane (Moulin Rouge!), costume designer Ayako Maeda, lighting designer Bradley King (Hadestown), sound designer Kai Harada (The Band’s Visit), composer/lyricist Drew Gasparini (It’s Kind of a Funny Story), and music director Andrew Resnick (The Cher Show) have also been announced as part of the production. A cast has yet to be announced.

The Karate Kid will have a pre-Broadway run at Stages St. Louis starting May 25, 2022 at the Kirkwood Performing Arts Center Ross Family Theatre and will run until June 26. To keep up with future announcements about the musical and priority access to tickets, visit TheKarateKidTheMusical.com.
