After auditioning for Dance Moms three times before finally achieving her dream, Ashtin Roth shares her top tips for nailing an audition.
1 Visual Consistency Helps You to Stand Out and Be Remembered!Wear the same (or similar) outfits each day you audition. For instance, if you have your hair in a high ponytail and have a red leotard on, then the next day you should wear your hair in a high ponytail and a have a red leotard on. When there are so many dancers auditioning alongside you (like 1,900!) you have to find a way to stand out and be remembered. Your talent is how they notice you, but how you look is how they’ll remember you from day to day. If you come the next day in a bun and a blue leotard, then they may spend half the time looking for “that girl in the red leotard and ponytail.”
2 Have Fun!It’s important to always smile and to look like you love what you are doing. Be confident, have fun with what you’re doing, and the producers will pick up on your positive attitude.
3 You Won’t Be Everyone’s Cup of Tea.Auditions can vary; some will be looking for a certain ‘look’ while others are looking for talent. Don’t get discouraged if you don’t get what you want from an audition. If you keep a positive outlook and never give up, eventually you’ll score the audition of a lifetime!
